For those of you still in school, or just out of school. Or wondering why you can’t get that “hot” job. Take a look at this article by Michael McDonough who has some very frank thoughts on stuff you may have missed at Art School.
Spent the afternoon creating a 3-column footer. Not that news worthy, but you can now see the most recent comments and trackbacks on every page. I’ve also added a social networking blog sharing thing at the bottom of every article. So you can post on digg or whatever. Eventually I’d like to incorporate all kinds of cool stuff to the site. But in the mean time… DIGG the frickin’ three column footer or something.
I found this article particularly interesting. Most sports teams have video production and graphics teams. But rarely do we think about the team management as an arm of the video department. It’s separated. In the Laker’s case, the daily game footage is edited next to Phil Jackson’s office… it’s team management, not game day entertainment.
Let me put it this way, I’m sure we’ve all been working in after effects and our editor or 3d guy was busy when our boss needed a short edit or 3d intro. It becomes apparent that you’ve got to learn a little bit of some of those other programs. Maybe you’ve even taken a Avid or Cinema 4D crash course online. So, I can understand a scout, looking at the FCP interface and thinking “I can do this”. They may not be the best Editor in the world, but they don’t have to be. It’s just game footage spliced together right? Maybe, but expanding your skill set beyond the obvious program updates and cool new plugin to more substantial skillsets like management, scouting and maybe typography is a great way to be ready for those new hybrid jobs in sports that technology will reveal. Look around, there may be an office in your stadium with a rack of DVR’s, 8 Macbook Pros and you didn’t even know it.

WordPress, the blogging software we use here at GraphicsMafia was updated to version 2.7 recently. I haven’t installed it on GraphicsMafia yet, but on some of my other blogs it is running great. The back end interface is gorgeous.
I recently got C4D R11 along with Mograph, Advanced Renderer and NET render. Having never used net renderer before, I have to say its awesome. Although when I start using images in my materials it gets a little complicated. Overall, C4D hasn’t changed to much other than its faster and seems to be more stable. Advanced Renderer however has a revamped GI thats amazing. Looks great, and worth the cheap update.
Michael Coleman from Adobe released a statement the other day, indicating that they are dropping support for PowerPC Macintosh computers. So if you’re still holding out for a new Intel PowerMac… now is the time to buy.
So it recentley came to my attention that I had no support for IE7. Which is a problem, becauseĀ a lot of people still use PC’s… which I’ll never understand ![]()
So consider GraphicsMafia no longer a pretentious mac supporting blog (if it ever was) and welcome the much cleaner and less tampered with theme to the site.
